these departments also responding to EMS calls.
Ambulance Services:
We dispatch MEDSTAR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
& NORTH BALDWIN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES.
Police:
We do not directly dispatch any calls for Law Enforcement response. Calls
for all police
agencies continue to be transferred to their respective
jurisdictions.
FREQUENCIES UTILIZED
We currently use 19 different UHF
and VHF frequencies with several repeater sites. We also have a phone patch/radio
channel.
OUR STAFF
All of Baldwin 9-1-1's full time and
part time telecommunicators are, at a minimum, EMD and APCO certified. As an
added
bonus, most of our employees are Emergency Medical
Technicians, ranging in
experience from Basic to Paramedic. Some
employees also serve as members of volunteer fire departments in the county.
OUR FACILITY
Our center is, we feel, the best in
Alabama and strives to be the best in the nation. The center consists
of approximately 3960 square feet and was built in 1987 by E.J. Builders of Foley
at a cost of $314,000. We have 4 console positions, with the capability of
expanding to 8 positions. Our building was designed to withstand winds of 175
MPH, equivalent to a category 5 hurricane. We are self-sufficient in the event
that power and water service is lost. We have 1 primary generator as well as a
smaller generator, in the event that the primary generator fails. Supplying
these generators is a 1000 gallon underground diesel tank. If water supply is
lost there is a well with pump on site. We have also added a 5,000 square foot
addition to the building in 2000 for administrative and training purposes.
OUR SERVICE AREA
Per the US Census
Bureau, Baldwin County's current population
is estimated at 135,820 full-time residents. However, during the summer months
that number increases dramatically
with the influx of tourists. Baldwin County
has been
touted as the largest county east of the Mississippi
River, consisting
of 1241 square miles. Our climate
offers an average of 58.79" of rainfall yearly, with a
mean
temperature of 68.6 degrees.
